For relaxation, small town charm, historic details
and great book recommendations, Bookin' It in downtown
Little Falls is the place.
Our store, located on Second Street SE, faces the Historic
Morrison County Courthouse and has all the charm and
character of a country cottage. Washed in pale greens
and yellows with bold berry red accents, visitors rave
about the cozy rooms. A favorite is the kid's room with
its original tin ceiling and barn wood walls.
For all that, books are our priority here. We offer
a diverse collection of new books for all ages and are
most happy when you allow us to chat up our favorites.
We hand select each book and take special care with
choosing greeting cards which range from the classic
styles of Sunrise Greetings to unusual lines like Little
Fish Studio and Mina Lee.
Bookin' It sponsors author events throughout the year
and four in-store book clubs, The Contemporary Fiction
Book Club, The Good Living Cookbook Club, the Spirituality
Book Discussion Group and the Reading the World Summer
Book Club.
Bookin' It - we call ourselves the small town bookstore
with big ideas. Some call us a haven or retreat. Our
regulars just call us friends. How about stopping in
on your next day off or trip north? We are conveniently
located on the way to just about everywhere.

Laurie Halse Anderson has won the 2009
Scott O'Dell Award for Chains (S&S, October 2008),
narrated by teenaged Isabel Finch during the Revolutionary
War. Although Isabel and her enslaved five-year-old
sister were to be freed upon the death of their mistress,
the woman's heir sells the siblings to a new owner in
New York City--that is the first of the betrayals that
lie ahead, but also the beginning of Isabel's fight
for freedom. The award, established by O'Dell (best
known as the author of The Island of the Blue Dolphins),
is given annually to a meritorious work of historical
fiction and includes a $5,000 prize. Chains was also
a National Book Award Finalist, just like Anderson's
debut novel, Speak (FSG, 1999).

With
A Reliable Wife, Robert Goolrick has
given us a rare treat, a story so good we are loathe
to start another book for fear it will fail utterly
in comparison.
It is 1907 and Ralph Truitt is seeking
a wife. Catherine Land is the woman who answers his
call. In the midst of a swirling snowstorm, she steps
off of the train and into his life. She is not what
he expected. Nor is he as naïve as she had hoped.
What follows is a skillfully told tale
of lies and betrayals, of rampant passion and unchecked
desires, and occasionally of hope and compassion. Fierce
and original, sensual but never crass, Goolrick spins
a remarkable tale that takes the reader from the sophistications
of Chicago to a bitterly cold and barren Wisconsin winter
to the opium dens and music halls of St. Louis.
The
Dragonfly Door by John
Adams; illustrated by Barbara L. Gibson.
A picture book for children about loss and change. Ages
5-9
