Candace Simar was at Bookin' It on Monday, December 21st.

Candace Simar is a writer and poet from Pequot Lakes, Minnesota, in the heart of Lake Country. As a life-long Minnesotan, the grandchild of Scandinavian immigrants, Candace nurtures a passion for Minnesota History. North Star Press has published ABERCROMBIE TRAIL, her historical novel about the 1862 Sioux Uprising.

ABERCROMBIE TRAIL is the story of Evan Jacobson, a Scandinavian immigrant, who works as a stagecoach driver in 1862 Minnesota against the backdrop of the Civil War and the Great Sioux Uprising. Because of his job, Evan witnesses the heartbreak and experiences of ordinary people living through extraordinary times.

Abercrombie Trail is the first in a planned trilogy of novels about the Uprising and the families impacted by this event in Minnesota's early history. The other titles in the series, Pomme de Terre and Birdie, will be published later

Discussion Groups are meeting now!

Excerpt from Reading Group Choices... new research indicates that reading works better and faster to calm frazzled nerves than other methods such as listening to music, going for a walk or settling down with a cup of tea. Even six minutes of reading can be enough to reduce the stress levels by more than two thirds. MarieClaire.com.uk reports that this is according to Mindlab International at the University of Sussex. Reading is relaxing -- (we) didn't really need a report for that piece of news!
